One of my colleagues at The Kansas City Star, Randy Smith, has written a book about his recent trip to Kenya and Uganda as part of a journalism exchange. This portrait goes with a dedication to Tevin, a young boy he befriended there who died after Randy's return. – lec
Mother to the rescue
The pirate story takes another turn as the heroine's mother poses atop Turtle Rock with two glue guns, symbols of her artistic solution to the "problem" of the crack in the rock.
The story, "The Pirates of Turtle Rock," by Richard Jennings, will continue in serial form in The Kansas City Star's weekly magazine through the summer....although the ending is not by any means certain. – lec
Hiding the treasure
The pirate story takes an unexpected turn when the professor walks into a movie that describes the burial of the treasure he has been seeking. Two natives are hurriedly burying it in the swamp, hiding the giant statue from the pirates. Stay tuned..... –lec
