"The Pirates of Turtle Rock," by Richard Jennings
Beneath a full, fat, pumpkin-orange South Florida moon, Cooper and Jenny were digging in the sand. It was a frustrating exercise. No sooner would they scoop out an area underneath Turtle Rock than the ocean would rush in to fill it up again. Not to mention that despite the inspiring heavenly illumination, it was difficult to see what they were doing.
But alas, the teenage pirates turned treasure-hunters were compelled to work at night because Jenny’s mother’s well-advertised fracture repair project kept them away during the day, not to mention the severe legal prohibitions against disturbing the beach within a protected nature preserve in any manner whatsoever.
