In constant motion

TakeItWithYou3.gifThree children's books are on the drawing board right now, and keeping me busy every available moment. Another upcoming book, about WWII-era quilting-on-the-go, needed this quick cover illustration last week.

I think I know how she feels...as well as the folks on the camel. I've been switching gears a lot lately from the briskly creative to a more thoughtful, careful pace, but trying to approach each moment with confidence.

But the images from the books are always in my head, and I think I'm starting to see the shapes of these ideas in my morning coffee. — lec

Same cafe, minutes later

cafecat.gifHere is a sketch of what is happening in the story involving the kitten in the box. The scene will be revisited in a companion scene that takes place a few years later. – lec

Taking another look

strays.gifI've been given the annual assignment of re-illustrating a Christmas story for the front page on Christmas Day. Part of this story appeared in C.W. Gusewelle's Christmas book, A Little Christmas Music and this illustration appears there.

Last year, I needed to illustrate it in a small space. This time I'll be tackling it a little differently because the story has a sequel. The two illustrations need to work together to tell the old and new parts. – lec
